How do I set up my own AI actions for recurring tasks?

Updated

In short

Open “Settings” → “Chips”. Each of the four chips, “Improve”, “Fix errors”, “Explain” and “Summarize”, has a name, an instruction and an on/off switch that you can change. Under “Shortcuts” you can give each chip its own key combination, so a recurring task runs on any selection.

You can change
Name, instruction, on or off, shortcut
Reset
Each chip back to its default

Step by step

  1. Click “Settings” (the gear icon) in the title bar of the Zack KI window and open “Chips”.
  2. Click the pencil next to a chip’s name to rename it, for example “Improve” to “Formal”.
  3. Replace the text in the instruction field with your own, for example “Rewrite the text in a polite, formal tone for customers. Keep all facts, requests and deadlines.” Changes are saved right away.
  4. Open “Shortcuts”. Under “Chip shortcuts”, click the chip’s combination and press a new one. “Summarize” and “Explain” show “Not set”: record a combination for them, then turn on the switch next to it.
  5. Select text in any app and press the shortcut, or click the chip in the Zack KI window.

What can I change, and what can’t I?

You can rename each chip, rewrite its instruction, switch it off and give it a shortcut. A chip you switch off disappears from the window, and its shortcut no longer runs. The arrow next to the name (“Reset to default”) restores name and instruction after you confirm.

You cannot add a fifth chip or change what kind of action a chip is. The kind is fixed per chip:

ChipKindWhat happens with the result
Improve, Fix errorsEdits the textReplaces the selection when run by shortcut. In the window it appears as a text block with “Insert”. Not limited by the answer length.
Explain, SummarizeAnswers about the textAppears as a normal answer in the window, in your interface language and within your answer length. Run by shortcut, it also replaces the selection.

So put tasks that should change the text, such as a new tone or a translation, on “Improve” or “Fix errors”. Put tasks that should tell you something about the text, such as open questions or risks, on “Explain” or “Summarize”.

Which rules stay in place?

Your instruction is the task, and Zack KI keeps a few fixed rules around it. Editing chips return only the edited text, keep the language and formatting unless your instruction says otherwise, keep names, technical terms, numbers, dates and links, and invent no facts. Answer chips keep apart what the text says and what they add, and name unclear points instead of guessing.

Your “Custom instructions” from “General” do not apply when a chip runs on selected or typed text, so write style wishes into the chip’s instruction itself. On attached files or a screenshot, a chip sends its instruction as a normal chat question instead.

Examples for recurring tasks

  • “Formal” (on “Improve”): “Rewrite the text in a polite, formal tone for customers. Keep all facts, requests and deadlines.”
  • “To English” (on “Fix errors”): “Translate the text into English. Keep names, numbers and formatting.”
  • “Tasks” (on “Summarize”): “List the tasks, owners and deadlines the text mentions. If there are none, say so.”
  • “For customers” (on “Explain”): “Explain the text so that a customer without technical knowledge understands it.”

Each example replaces the chip’s original action until you reset it. Answer chips stay within your answer length, so a task list with several items needs “Short” or “Normal”.

Write an instruction as one or two plain sentences about the result: what should change and what must stay. For a one-off wish, type a note into the input field before you click the chip, for example “for my manager”. It applies to this run only.

Related questions

Can I add more than four chips?

No. Zack KI has four chips. You can rename and repurpose each of them.

How do I get the original chips back?

Click the arrow next to the chip’s name (“Reset to default”) and confirm. Name and instruction return to the defaults; the shortcut stays as it is.

Can I hide chips I never use?

Yes. Switch the chip off under “Chips”. It disappears from the window, and its shortcut stops working.

Do my own chips cost more?

No. Each run counts as a normal request; the credits used depend on the length of the text and the answer.
