In short
Select the text and press Alt+3. “Improve” smooths awkward sentences, fixes grammar and merges repetition with as few changes as useful, then replaces your selection. Meaning, language, tone, names and numbers stay. For a different tone or length, press Alt+1 and say what you want.

Step by step
- Select the text in your app, for example the paragraph of an email you are not happy with.
- Press Alt+3. A small bar with “Improve” appears at the top of the screen while Zack KI works. Esc cancels.
- Leave the selection alone until the bar disappears. If the selection changes in the meantime, Zack KI replaces nothing and copies the result for you to paste with Ctrl+V.
- Read the result. It is pasted like normal text, so in most apps Ctrl+Z brings back your original.
What does “Improve” change, and what stays?
| Changes | Stays |
|---|---|
| Awkward or stiff wording | Meaning and every distinct point |
| Grammar and sentence connections | Language: an English text stays English |
| Repetition, merged into one statement | Tone and formality: a casual note stays casual |
| Typing errors, if the intended word is clear | Names, technical terms, numbers, dates and links |
| Paragraph breaks or a plain list, only where they clearly help | Negations, conditions and hedges such as “probably” |
“Improve” adds no facts, intentions or commitments, does not finish half-written thoughts and adds no headings. If the text is already fine, it comes back unchanged.
How can I see the result before it replaces my text?
Press Alt+1 instead of Alt+3, then click the “Improve” chip. The rewrite appears as a text block in the Zack KI window. Compare it with your original, edit it if needed and click “Insert” to replace your selection. “Generate another answer” gives you a second version, and the arrows switch between versions.
Before you click the chip, you can type a short note into the input field, for example “for a customer, a little warmer”. It applies to this one rewrite.
Text you cannot select, for example in a form that blocks it, can be pasted or typed into the input field. Clicking “Improve” then rewrites that text.
What if I want a different tone or a shorter text?
“Improve” deliberately keeps your tone and the substance of your text. For bigger changes, press Alt+1 and say what you want:
- “Make this more formal for a customer.”
- “Shorten this to three sentences.”
- “Rewrite this for someone without technical knowledge.”
- “Give me two versions: one friendly, one firm.”
Rewrites come back as text blocks with “Insert”, one per version. If you need the same kind of rewrite every day, give a chip your own instruction, see Custom AI actions.
Where are the limits?
The rewrite comes from an AI model and can shift a nuance. Read it before you send it, especially numbers, deadlines and promises.
Very long selections stop with “Text too long”; rewrite them in parts. Alt+3 can only replace text you could edit yourself. For text on a web page, use the chat and copy the result.
Related questions
What is the difference between “Improve” and “Fix errors”?
“Fix errors” only corrects spelling, grammar and punctuation and keeps your wording. “Improve” also reworks awkward wording. See AI grammar check.
Will “Improve” translate my text?
No. The text stays in its language. To translate, ask for it in your own words, see Translate selected text.
Do my custom instructions apply to “Improve”?
No. “Improve” on selected text follows only the chip’s own instruction. To change how it rewrites, edit the chip under “Settings” → “Chips”.
